"I had been very busy with work and family matters so booked a day with Jane at Paradise Pottery to give me some ‘me time’.
The pottery is lovely, with a sun deck outside where Jane and I shared a coffee and cake before settling down to the one-to-one class. I wanted to spend the day throwing on the wheel, but it is also possible to build pots with slabs or by coiling. Jane was happy to facilitate whatever method I wanted to experiment with and takes things at a pace that suits the learner.
Jane is a wonderful teacher, giving clear and simple instructions in a kind, patient and encouraging way. She seemed instinctively to know when to gently remind me to do something, with the result that I successfully made a series of pots and bowls. We stopped for a lovely lunch of homemade soup, bread, cheeses and salads, served in Jane’s light-filled kitchen, surrounded by art and pots.
It was a tremendously restorative day, because although I was focusing hard and trying to remember all of Jane’s tips, the rhythm of the wheel and the feel of the clay became truly relaxing – and the buzz of producing a recognizable object at the end was great!
I felt I had learned a great deal and developed some ‘technique’ which I will take away and continue to use at evening classes – I’ve really got the bug!
I would highly recommend a day at Paradise Pottery with Jane to anyone who fancies a fulfilling day in lovely surroundings being encouraged by a wonderful teacher. I can’t believe the level of the work Jane helped me achieve, or the lift the whole day gave me. ‘Me time’ of the very highest quality!!
